Sun down at Fiddlers Ferry power station ... a Beauty and the Beast moment; the Beauty of the false sun set coupled with a Beast of a coal fired Power Plant and its cooling stacks.
Fiddlers Ferry is sited on the outskirts of Widnes near to my home town of Warrington, and just across the river Mersey from Runcorn. The photo was taken from Wigg Island, Runcorn; a former brownfield site that was opened as a Community Park in 2002 by Bill Oddie. The island is a result of the construction of the adjacent Manchester Ship Canal and used for the production of sulphuric acid by the [former] chemical industry.
